New girl in Boston

Boston University

It was the month of February. I was chilling at home on a Saturday morning right when I got an email from Boston university about my acceptance with an emerging leaders scholarship!

Little did I know that this was going to change my life completely, I only had a few months now to stay home with my loved ones and embrace living in my hometown. I had never stayed away from my parents for more than a month, which made this all the more huge. And soon within four months, I was in Boston. I had always heard about how Boston was a small picturesque town in the States but never got an opportunity to be here before.

It was all so fresh and intimidating, from moving into a new country and living all by myself to being a part of this eminent university. The weather in the city was so much colder than my home country, which made things a little difficult. I did not know how to commute to my college or where to go for a good meal. Zillow, Facebook, Hotpads all had been to my rescue to find a good apartment. Since I knew the city was expensive, I tried to compromise a little on the area just to save myself from getting a hole in my pocket. I found the perfect three-bed apartment in Brighton within my budget that I now call home. Living here with my two friends made it so much better.

From paying utility bills to acquiring cooking skills, it felt like a learning journey I never had before. Every day I encountered my main firsts (first self-cooked meal, first snow, first apartment, first visit to the bank alone, first job in US etc). Learning to manage my personal finances and making the most of the time at University, it all felt so real and blissful. Now six months in the town with so many firsts and learnings, I feel so confident and sanguine about living all by myself in Boston.
